Lanceleaf Springbeauties

Claytonia lanceolata

Watercolor and graphite on calfskin vellum

Springbeauties are one of the earliest blooming flowers at high elevations in Utah. They are small and grow in clusters. The magenta anthers are eye catching.

Native tribes used the bulbs as food. Supposedly they are good freshly boiled.
