Hairy Clematis on Kelmscott Vellum

1 of 2

 Clematis hirsutissima

Unlike most clematis, this one is not a vine, but grows in a tuft. When the seeds are mature, it looks like a wild hairy plant out of a Dr. Seuss book.

Native peoples have used Hairy Clematis as an analgesic and as a respiratory aid.
