Painting Paintbrush

First I travel to a location where the plant is growing, then I take photos, color notes, and sketches. I research the plant, then I draw out the plant, taking care to make sure it is botanically accurate. I compose the painting. I trace the drawing onto my watercolor paper, use a kneaded eraser to lighten the lines. then I put down my initial color washes. I build the color and form up layer by layer, adding in texture as I go. I finish off the flowers by adding tiny details. I use a dead bee and photographs of this species of bee as a reference for my bee drawing. I practice painting the bee, and then add it to my final painting, and that’s it.
