Final Essay

If you happen to be interested in reading my essay about Carl Linnaeus and his binomial naming system, and how it has evolved, you can find it here.

This was the first time in many years that I wrote an essay. I was quite nervous to submit it, even though I am pleased with how it came together. I admit I was rather annoyed at having to write an essay on a historical figure for an art course. I would have liked to compare two artists, or write about what botanical art means to me and how I have been inspired by other botanical artists. I started off intending to write and essay on Margaret Mee. As I read her book In Search of Flowers of the Amazon Forest, I loved the idea of going out in nature and exploring and painting, but I found the direction I wanted to go with my research fit more in line with Carl Linnaeus’ work. I learned quite a bit throughout the process of researching and synthesizing all the fascinating information I encountered, and am no longer annoyed at the assignment. It proved to be an expanding excersise.
