Assignment 10

I’m well into the Society of Botanical Artists Distance Learning course now. I try to choose subjects for these assignments that I love, and are connected to my home state of Utah. That hasn’t worked out as often as I would like. The assignment I am working on requires me to use photographs for references rather than live specimens. I have chosen one of four options: a travel poster. Utah has abundant geographic and botanical diversity. There are too many breathtaking places, iconic landmarks, and defining plants to choose from. I could paint travel posters of Utah my whole life and never run out of unique material.

It might come at no real surprise that I have chosen this scene of my mountain property in central Utah that is covered with native trees, grasses, and wildflowers. This is my happy place. Maybe one day I will host a wildflower painting workshop there and use the painting for marketing.
